| Elderly care center on the way
Plans for a multimillion-dollar comprehensive care center in Lynchburg for the frail elderly are moving toward an opening date of July 2008. The Lynchburg center, one of six to be established statewide, is a Program of All-Inclusive Care of the Elderly (PACE). Centra Health received a $250,000 grant, announced by Gov. Timothy M. Kaine's office last year, as startup funding to establish the $3 million project. Original plans called for putting Centra PACE in a newly constructed building on a now-vacant property adjacent to the Johnson Health Clinic, located at 320 Federal St. Leasing is now the goal, rather than buying land and building. "We're hoping to play off what's established," said David Adams, Centra Health vice president, who oversees long-term care.
Elderly care boosts beds in hospitals
HEALTH chiefs say thousands of hospital beds will be freed up in the Lothians under a £2 million scheme to boost care for the elderly in the community. The money is likely to be used to provide more local clinic services, particularly helping older people to cope with long-term conditions such as lung disease and rheumatoid arthritis. .
